Meet The Therapist
Susan M. Tiffany, MSW, LICSW
I have been working in the field of social work since my first internship in 2003. I earned my bachelor of arts in collaborative health and human services from California State University, Monterey Bay, in May 2005. I returned to school in fall 2009 to earn my Master in Social Work (MSW) and graduated from Texas State University, San Marcos, in May 2013.
My internships have included an after-school program for students on the autism spectrum, the Monterey County AIDS Project, The Salvation Army, and Victor Community Support Services in Yuba-Sutter County, CA.
Professionally, I have worked with both adult and child survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, individuals and families experiencing homelessness, people living with addiction, and families with youth who were experiencing mental, social, emotional, and behavioral health issues at home, at school, and in the community. My specialty is working with people who are experiencing challenges due to unresolved trauma experienced prior to reaching the age of adulthood.
I am also an Air Force veteran having served on active duty from 1991 until 2001. During my time in service I was an aerospace physiology technician and then a paralegal with the Judge Advocate General. I believe strongly in supporting our veterans who are leaving the service and reintegrating into civilian life. If you need to talk about reintegrating into civilian life or you have military trauma experiences you need to process, I would like to talk with you.
“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”
Maya Angelou
Therapeutic Approach
I work from a strengths-based perspective and believe that all people have strengths that can help them overcome challenges and stressors that are leading them to therapy. Healing is a scary and hard process, and it takes a great amount of strength to take the first step toward beginning that journey. You are the expert in your own life, and my goal in working with you is to walk alongside you towards healing and peace.
